Spread a Little Love
03:12
|

Spread a Little Love
There is goodness and kindness in us all
Now is the time
Do you hear the call
When you’re passing through
There is one thing you must do
You gotta spread a little love around
You gotta spread a little love around
These troubled times we’re living in
Wake up in the morning start all over again
Open up your heart like you never done before
Tear down all the walls and open all the doors
You gotta spread a little love around
You gotta spread a little love around
Loving ain’t easy it ain’t for sale
Raise a joyful noise you will not fail
Freedom is a word that just reminds us
Peace and understanding sill can bind us
You gotta spread a little love around
You gotta spread a little love around
Cuz
There is goodness and kindness in us all
Now is the time
Do you hear the call
We're all just passing through
One thing you gotta do
You gotta spread a little love around
You gotta spread a little love around

Once to These Shores

Once to these Shores
They don’t look like us
They don’t talk like us
They don’t pray like us
They do’t walk like us
They wear different clothes
They cover their head
They say different words
They might want us dead
They move in next door
They move down the street
They shop in our stores
They eat where we eat
(This is who we are
We are all the same
Once to these shores
Our grandparents came)
They’re taking out jobs
They’re taking our pay
They’re everywhere
They won’t go away
They’re not like us
They make us afraid
They fill us with fear
They want to invade
Wake up you sleepyhead
Rub your eyes get out of bed
You know what you have to do
Will history be kind to you
We’ll put them in jail
We’ll sent them away
We’ll buy lots of guns
We’ll scare them that way
We’ll steal their children
We’ll lock them in cages
We’ll treat them like dirt
They won’t want to stay
Wake up you sleepyhead
Rub your eyes get out of bed
You know what you have to do
Will history be kind to you
They wore different clothes
They prayed different prayers
They came for the jobs
From everywhere
They left their homes
For better lives
They brought their children
They brought their wives
This is who we are
We are all the same
Once to these shores
Our grandparents came
Our grandparents came
Our grandparents came

The Last Time

The Last Time
The autumn leaves are dry, rattling on the trees
Chilly air blows in with the evening breeze
You know what’s around the corner
Long shadows now, the days are growing shorter
Clothes are on the line
Probably the last time
Pretty soon you’re going home
I’m letting go like October
Nothing like winter to make you sober
Not much left to do
But say goodbye to you
Wish I had s souvenir to remember you by
But I don’t know what and I don’t know why
I guess I wanted something more
But you’re here as much now as you were before
Still waiting for a sign
Feels like the last time
Pretty soon you’re going home
Wish for what I never had
You are still my dad
Not much left to do
But say goodbye to you
What else can I do
But say good bye to you.

You Make It Easy

You Make It Easy
Early in the morning
First thing I see
Sun through the window Y
ou next to me
You
You make it easy
You
You treat me so kind
Old flannel shirt
Still fits me fine
That glass of brandy
Start sipping at nine
You
You make it easy
You
You treat me so kind
Late in the evening
Stars shining bright
Last thing I see
Is you every night
You
You make it easy
You
You treat me so kind
You
You make it easy
You
You treat me so kind

Outlaw Love Song

Outlaw Love Song
He rode into town that night
He was looking for a fight
With two boys in his gang
Who done him wrong
What he found was you instead
You lured my man into your bed
With ruby lips you kissed him
Hard and long
When I woke and found him gone
I went and through a saddles on
My horse and rode as fast
As we could fly
In the early morning light
He stumbled from your door and I
Knew right then that
One of you would die
I’m hanging in the morning at dawn
I shot that woman down before her gun was drawn
And now I’m crying but I can
Go to my grave known’ that she’s gone
That man of mine I love him so
I spared his life even though
He fell into your arms
And made me cry
So now alone I face my fate
A fiery hell for me awaits
A dug my grave and in it
I will lie.
I’m hanging in the morning at dawn
I shot that woman down before her gun was drawn
And now I’m crying but I can
Go to my grave known’ that she’s gone

Baseball in Heaven

Baseball in Heaven
Well you got your Green Bay Packers
Detroit Lions and Chicago Bears
There’s Vikings up in Minnesota
Butt no one really cares
There are other teams and other sports
They go by many names
But to me
In this land of the free
There’s only one American game
And I don’t need to see those pearly gates
I don’t need those angel halos glowing
But they better have some baseball up in heaven
Or I’m not goin’
My daddy took me to Comiskey Park
I can’t recall the date
The Yankees were in town that day
They had Mantle at the plate
He swung hard from the left ide
Even harder from the right
Mickey had two homers
On that doubleheader night.
And up at Wrigley Field
Wins weren’t easy I must admit
But I got to see Stan Musial
Get his 3000th hit
He was Stan the Man
He played for the dreaded Cards
He cost the Cubs the game that day
But, man, they still played hard.
And I don’t need to see those pearly gates
I don’t need those angel halos glowing
But they better have some baseball up in heaven
Or I’m not goin’
My friends and I would gather'
down at the local park
We started there each morning
and played til it got dark
It was summer time and hot
The grass was green and fine
We played there all day long
Til our moms called, “Supper Time!”
And back in those good old days,
You know there were no lights
Cuz if there were, we’d still be there'
Playing through the night.
And we didn’t need to see those pearly gates
We didn’t need those angel halos glowing
But they better have some baseball up in heaven
Or none of us were goin’
Now sinces I wrote this song
There’s been some changes in my life
Lost some loved ones like most folks do
Got me a second wife
And a lot of things have happened
That I never thought I’d see while I was along
Like the Withe Son winning the World Series
Back in two thousand five
And I have lived through almost all'
Of a 108 year long dry spell
But in 2016,
I guess you’d say
the Cubs made it freeze down in Hell.
So I’m ready to see those pearly gates
And I’ll put up with angel halos glowing
But they better have some baseball up in heaven
Or there’s no point in me even going

I’d Rather Be a Hippie Than a Railroad Man
I was just a young man when I set out on my own
Had no direction no place to go
I started walking moving kinda slow
Didn’t know where I was going one thing I did know
I’d rather be a hippie than a railroad man
I’d rather be a hippie than a railroad man
Took the jobs here and there the pay it wasn’t fair
Didn’t have a wife or kids didn’t really care
Moved around from town to town breathing good clean air
Thumbed some rides along the way just to get somewhere
I’d rather be a hippie than a railroad man
I’d rather be a hippie than a railroad man
You can say I roamed a bit before I settled down
Found a girl I loved in a nice Wisconsin town
Soon there were careers a family came around
I loved my wife and kids but one thing that I found I
’d rather be a hippie than a railroad man
I’d rather be a hippie than a railroad man
Dododododododododo
I stuck it out for forty years that’s what good men do
The woman that I loved is gone both my kids done grew
And now I get the feeling my work is almost through
But before I leave this town here’s some parting words for you
I’d rather be a hippie than a railroad man
I’d rather be a hippie than a railroad man
Dododododododododo

The Crossing

The Crossing
I carried you here across the wide desert
I carried you here safe in my arms
I carried you here across the wide river
To a place that I thought you’d be safe from all harm
Tu nombre es Maria
Yo soy tu mama
Por todos los dias
De tu vida
Y te quiero, mi hija
Te quiero, mi amor
They’re taking you away to God knows where
I memorized your eyes and your long dark hair
Remember these words for as long as you can
They’re yours to keep if I can’t see you again
Tu nombre es Maria
Yo soy tu mama
Por todos los dias
De tu vida
Y te quiero, mi hija
Te quiero, mi amor
Remember these words for as long as you can
They’re yours to keep if I can’t see you again
Tu nombre es Maria
Yo soy tu mama
Por todos los dias
De tu vida
Y te quiero, mi hija
Te quiero, mi amor

The Birthday Song

|

Birthday Song
Cabinet doors left open
Toilet seats left up
Snoring in the morning
The honey in your coffee cup
Whiskers in the bathroom sink
Clothes left on the floor these
Enduring qualities keep me
Coming back for more.
So keep on having birthdays every year
I’ve kinda gotten used to having you right here
Even though I shake me head
When you leave the garage light on
All these things I’d miss if you were gone
So keep on having birthdays every year
I’ve kinda gotten used to having you right here
Even though I shake me head
When you’re up at the crack
All these things I’d miss if you were gone
The way your green eyes sparkle
The way you hold my hand
The way you don’t say nothing
But I Know you understand
You tell me that you love me
Bring me brandy from the store
Enduring qualities keep me
Coming back for me
So keep on having birthdays every year
I’ve kinda gotten used to having you right here
Even though I shake me head
When you play the chords all wrong
All these things I’d miss if you were gone
So keep on having birthdays every year
I’ve kinda gotten used to having you right here
Even though I shake me head
When you leave the garage light on
When you’re up at the crack
When you play the chords all wrong
And forget the words of the song
All these things I’d miss if you were gone
All these things I’d miss if you were gone

Feels Like Home

Feels Like Home (Randy Newman)
Something in your eyes
Makes me want to lose myself
Makes me want to lose myself
In your arms
Something in your voice
Makes my heart beat fast
Hope this feeling lasts
The rest of my life
If you knew
How lonely my life has been
And how low I've felt for so long
If you knew
How I wanted someone to come along
And change my world the way you've done
Feels like home to me
Feels like home to me
Feels like I'm all the way back where I come from
Feels like home to me
Feels like home to me
Feels like I'm all the way back where I belong
A window breaks
Down a long dark street
And a siren wails in the night
That's alright
'Cause I have you here with me
And I can almost see
Through the dark there's a light
If you knew
How much this moment means to me
And how long I've waited for your touch
If you knew
How happy you're making me
Oh, I never thought I'd love anyone
So much
Feels like home to me
Feels like home to me
Feels like I'm all the way back where I come from
Feels like home to me
Feels like home to me
Feels like I'm all the way back where I belong
Feels like I'm all the way back where I belong
